Escaping the Past
You want to know something that will really throw you for a loop?
Getting an invitation to check out your High School’s Alumni page on Facebook.
It’s late at night and I really didn’t have a lot to do (not being able to sleep SUCKS), so I was kinda clearing out a bunch of stuff on the Facebook.
I like to let the invites pile up, sorry. So, I go through and flush every now and then. One of those that I got was for said alumni association. Now, for a little backstory, my school was incredibly small and my Senior graduating class was all of 25 or 30 people. It was pretty small yo. I hung out with a small bunch of friends and really didn’t want to associate myself with the rest of the class.
Anyway, I decided it might be fun to check out the member list to see if there were people that I recognized.
Yeah, that’s why I’m not friend requesting any of you guys anytime soon.
Seriously, social media has made it all too convenient to reconnect with people, but how much of that past do you really want to reconnect with? If someone that you only knew for a year and pretty much haven’t talked to in the past 10 years is hitting you up with a friend request, what is the likelihood of you accepting said request?
Slim to none, right?
Well, that’s the case, really. If I wanted to keep in touch with you guys, you know I would have. The peoples that I know now are people I intended to keep in touch with anyway, not people that I just randomly stumble upon. If I’ve accepted your friend request, it’s because I genuinely want to know what’s going on with you nowadays.
Emphasis on the word GENUINELY.
I’m not the person you knew. You’re probably not the same person I knew, either. But, we weren’t friends when we did know each other, what makes you think I want to know what’s going on with you now?
*ignore*
Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I’m angry or bitter or anything like that, far from it. It’s just that I really don’t care to know what you’re up to nowadays.
