Don’t Buy Me A Birthday Gift!
Now that I have your attention…
I posted my birthday gift list a couple weeks back and mentioned that if you want to get me a birthday gift, don’t buy me anything, but take whatever money you were going to use and donate it to one of four charities.
I implore you to please give to the charities. Help me celebrate life by helping others celebrate life and the opportunities that it presents. I got the chance to reconnect with the Prolifik Projects crew and they helped me realize that it’s not about me and this crabs in a bucket syndrome that everyone in Hawaii seems to suffer from.
It’s not about being the top crab in the bucket, but about the biggest crab help all the other crabs out.
I’m just gonna copy/paste the earlier post and hope that you would consider giving.
FOR MY BIRTHDAY, IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP ME CELEBRATE MY 28TH, I WOULD ASK THAT YOU TO DONATE $28 IN MY NAME (jessie domingo) TO ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARITIES AND EMAIL ME THE RECEIPT (atypicalliving at gmail dot com).
The charities:
Why am I doing this? In this rough economic climate, I totally understand wanting to get people gifts and help them celebrate. But, for me, what good is a gift if it can’t help another in the process? Thus, I’m forgoing this year’s birthday and Christmas gifts and implore you to donate to one of the four charities listed above. I think it’s time to use gifts for their intended purpose: to help support those that really need it the most.
I’ll be honest with you guys, I really don’t need any more electronics, kicks, clothes, etc. But, there are some awesome people out there that don’t have those things, or are struggling to even live long enough and healthy enough to enjoy those things. So, instead of adding more stuff to my already plentiful blessing, it’s time to give back and let someone else in on the blessing.
It’s kind of like the premise behind atypicalLIVING. When it started in 2005, I had the utmost of intention to let the site speak as a voice for the underhyped and under represented clothing, people, fashion, and artists of Hawaii. A place where people can get their just recognition and shine. The business model was set up in a way that the only way I could be successful and grow is if other are successful and grow.
I’d like to think that I’m continuing that to the next level with this statement.
And I hope you guys don’t think I’m doing this for attention or anything. I just think it would be awesome if EVERYONE got a dope Christmas, not just me. Seriously, if only one of you donates during the next 6 weeks, then I think this has done it’s purpose.
But really, I humbly ask that you do this for me. My birthday wish is that others are able to be touched by your generosity and, that through that, the positive movement keeps going.
So, again, my birthday wish is simple: I’m turning 28, so please donate $28 to any one of the charities listed above. Do it in my name (or not, that’s cool too), and just forward me a copy of the receipt. Even if you donate a $1, that would be cool to, but I’m someone that likes themes and $28 sounds like a good enough amount to give.
If you guys need to know- name: jessie domingo / email: atypicalliving at gmail dot com
Make this Christmas season truly a season of giving. I humbly thank you in advance.
