Livicated to Nick Adenhart
Because the Giants couldn’t pull it out and make it to the playoffs this year, my attention will shift to my other team, the Los Angeles Angels.
They suffered the loss of a promising young pitchers, Nick Adenhart, at the beginning of the year to a drunk driver. I remember vividly watching that game and thinking… even though we lost K-Rod to the Mets and Lackey was on the DL, the team will be alright if they can get this kid to pitch like this every 5 days.
I even remember saying this outloud, to an empty house, after he got himeself out of a one out, bases loaded situation.
Then, the next morning…
Now, the Angels still went wire to wire with the lead, but that doesn’t take away the fact that they lost a teammate.
Reading this article and seeing how they still incorporated Nick into the celebration was classy. Sometimes, in the playoffs, it’s not the best team that always wins, it’s the team that gets hot at the right moment. And there’s always that team that has the mojo with them (the no-one believes we can win New York Giants in 2008, the lovable loser Red Sox in 2004, the return to prominence of the Boston Celtics in 2008, and the Kobe revenge factor Los Angeles Lakers in 2009).
This year… the Angels. Because they got a 10th guy on the field with them.
