here’s a thought: The New York Giants have been responsible for the last two Super Bowls. They won this year, but if they didn’t kick to DeSean Jackson on the final play of the final game last year, they wouldn’t have lost, causing them to miss the final playoff spot. A spot that went to the Green Bay Packets.
We all know how that turned out. Discount double check.
Even this year: if New Orleans stops the 49ers on that final drive, they would’ve been hosting the NFC title game against the Giants in the Superdome, where they killed them by 20 earlier in the year.
Sterling Moore doesn’t get a hand on Lee Evans & it’s the Ravens in the Super Bowl, not the Patriots.
And let’s not get started on “What if Gronk’s ankle was 75%?” or “What if Welker makes that 3rd down catch?”
Life is all about the little things. It’s what you make of it that matters.
Pretty exciting game that just went down. Of course, the prediction that I made earlier today didn’t come out. Neither did the score, as I totes expected a shootout.
But, the game that did happen was very entertaining. I didn’t really have a dog in this race (my team didn’t even make the playoffs), but I was pulling for the revenge factor and the fact that Eli Manning with TWO Super Bowl rings is a thought that I wasn’t ready to think about.
Guess it’s something I need to think about now.
In the prediction post I put up earlier today, I went with the idea of revenge and karma being the factors, especially since the Patriots were rocking those MHK patches on their jerseys for Myra Kraft (owner of the Patriots who died of cancer before the season started).
The karma thing bit back because of curious decision to RELEASE a player just hours before the game. I think that came back and neutralized the karma advantage.
Another thing was the actual seriousness of Gronkowski’s ankle injury. He looked severely limited and was held to two catches all game. Had he been healthy, I believe that he would’ve gotten the pass that was inevitably intercepted. Also, had he been able to push off on the ankle, I feel like he would’ve caught the ricochet on the Hail Mary pass.
But, that’s a case of “What If…” that Patriot fans will be asking themselves.
Of course, the other question that needs to be asked is, “Is Eli finally elite?” Honestly, he’s proven to be playoff clutch. It’s like he turns into someone else once playoff time comes around and especially when the 4th quarter comes up. Two Super Bowl titles, two Super Bowl MVPs, and three wins over the man that’s regarded as the best QB of this era, Tom Terrific.
Eli Manning, elite QB? I think we need to start thinking that. He has more titles than Brees, Rodgers, and his brother. He has as many titles as Big Ben and John Elway. Earlier in the season, he caught much grief for stating that he was a top five QB.
I don’t think that will happen again. His performances in the Green Bay game, the 4th quarter and OT period against the Niners and the 4th quarter work in Super Bowls 42 and 46… he’s earned his spot. Love him or hate him, you have to respect the fact that he shows up when he has to. It’s not pretty sometimes, but he gets it done.
Finally, the Super Bowl commercials were a pretty interesting bunch. GoDaddy should NEVER make another commercial if that’s the best they could come up with. I had the feeling like they were the one friend who THINKS they’re funny but all their jokes fall flat. And their two commercials accentuated that point.
M&Ms brought it with the naked M&M. Fiat’s commercial was brilliant. Kia’s commercial with the Sandman and Motley Crüe was funny, as was the commercial with the cartoon characters. Always a funny look. Chrysler hit it out of the park again with Clint Eastwood, following up on last year’s commercial with Eminem. And who knew the David Beckham ad would cause so much of a stir? Well played, H&M. Well played.
Finally, I need to make sure that we get a bigger party next year, as having friends around for the game is always a fun experience. Almost as fun as Aaron Hernandez’s TD dance, which was easily my MVP of the game. Now, on to March Madness… I hear New Orleans is nice in March.

After a whole week of non-stop talking about the minutia of this game, the big day is upon us and it’s time for amateur prognosticators to give their two cents about this game. There’s two major factors that I see as the swings in this game.
First of them is the revenge factor. Super Bowl 42, the Patriots were the juggernaut and the Giants already suffered defeat to the Patriots earlier in the season. The buildup to the week focused on Brady & Belichick becoming the ultimate dynasty and 19-0. The Giants took that and used it as motivation to win the game.
This time around, the talk surrounded Eli Manning, playing in the stadium his brother built, and how his second title would essentially punch his ticket into the Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, the Patroits lost a close game to the Giants during the regular season. Their last loss this season, mind you. I feel the tables have turned and they’re using this as motivation.
Second factor is Myra Kraft. If you’ve noticed the Patriot jerseys this year, it would be hard to not notice the gigantic MHK patch worn over their hearts. It stands for Myra Kraft, owner Robert Kraft’s wife who passed away before the start of this season. From
all accounts, she was a wonderful person and a class act who the team got to know as a motherly figure around the facilities. The team has been playing for her and for owner Bob Kraft this season, presenting him with a framed piece of artwork bearing the team logo, MHK, and a photo of the team huddled up, after they clinched the AFC East title.
For all the planning and practice that goes into the preparation of the Super Bowl, it’s really the details that will be the difference. In the year of Tebow and things happening without explanation, this outcome would be appropriate.
I BELIEVE IN ELI! But, I think something else is at play tonight.
